Default Leveling kits

Man, this forum is great!

Does anyone have experience with leveling kits? I'm speaking of the 2" coil spacers placed in between the front coil and shock towers. I have a 1500QC long bed and can't stand the way the front sits so much lower than the rear, plus the truck needs new shocks anyway, so I thought it would be a good time to go up a bit. Should I get steel or poly? How hard are they to install, and do you need a coil spring compressor to install? Does the kit level the truck out so much that a light load in the bed makes it sag in the rear? How about an add-a-leaf in the rear? Most of the kits say they will not work with the "off road" edition Rams because of a factory 2" lift. How can I tell if I have this? The rear axle has blocks between the spring & axle, but I don't see anything on the front end. Would the springs just be larger? If anyone has a picture of their truck with the kit installed I'd really like to see it.

Thanks for the help.

A lot of the guys over at Pavementsucks.com run spacers. You might get better results asking over there.

I installed a 2" leveling kit from Skyjacker. I used the 1500 coil that is 2" taller. I love how it rides compared to the stock coils. It gives me more suspension travel and it give the front a softer ride. I bought them from www.nsor.com (North Shore Off Road in B.C.)

Check out my page for info and pics on the install.

Here is the thread:

With the 2" lift, it will sit level, but it will look like the back end is sitting lower. I would suggest getting an Add a Leaf or a bigger block to lift it back up. All you need is about an inch or 2 in the back to make it look right. If you have the Off-Road package, it should say "Off-Road" on your tailgate.

The 2" spacer can be used, but I would suggest the coils. The main reason for this is that it replaces your probably worn out springs. Both are good choices though.

This is my truck before after the lift, bigger tires, and removal of the decals.

Hopefully that helps.

KICK @SS!!! Thanks, Tempsho. That was exactly what I needed to see. I'll be checking on the Skyjackers shortly. Did you install an add-a-leaf before that picture? Good call on removing the decals- gotta love a clean white Ram....

The rear suspension is still the stock height. I plan on doing an add a leaf in the spring. By the looks from the pic in your avatar, yours doesnt have the Off-Road package. So you can add 2" no problem. I would suggest getting an alignment after your done.

I have a front leveling kit which made the rear sit low. Then I put on a 1.5" add a leaf and heavy duty air bags (for hauling my tractor). It sits about the same height as a 2500. I can put 33's on there easily with no rubbing. I used the spacers...bought them from Summit Racing for about $120. It still rides like a stock suspension too, and the good thing is you can use stock length shocks.

Could you tell me where you got the 1.5" AAL from?

Do you have a 2" or 1.5" spacer? My dad is wanting to do the same to his truck...
