Default Jiffy lub Scam video

Please delete this if its a repost... I was just so shocked (not really) at the scam they pulled. I am sure others are doing it, so find a good shop you can trust, even then don't trust them.
I was looking to find out what my options are to get my tranny fluid flushed and was googling the topic and found this link.

Speaking of which... does flushing the tranny fluid help or hurt?
I got a odd rattle sound when i start it and drive the tranny after sitting over night. it goes away after driving about 4 feet.
(I might just add on to the tranny problems post)

thats happened to me and i caught them. One day i needed new brake pads a my rotors turned, oil change, filter, and to take a nail out of a tire. So i went to a local shop called redhorse tire to get it done. Before anything I had my "trusted" shade tree mechanic to mark the pads with a Star (in white). Took it o the shop and they called me when it was done. They charged me everything listed and the usual sythetic (royal purple) oil. None of the pads were replaced, the rotors were turned, the stock air filter was brushed off and put back in, the nail head was covered up with a blotch of black stuff and the oil was regular oil, it wasnt synthetic!!!. Took it back and showed the owner and he refunded every penny and told him he would never have my bussiness. That place is now about to go under.... Some places you just cant trust....

Just another example of why I always harp about doing your own maintenance and repairs. It is very rewarding doing your own, you get to know your vehicle, and you know the vehicle was done right.

Take it to someone else and who knows????

I'll bet there are more than a few customers at each of those locations that would have sworn their Jiffy Lube was an honest shop and would never do anything like that, and that they "trust" them.

You mean if they actually do it??.....lol

If you have more than 75,000 miles and you cannot verify that the tranny has ever been flushed, most shops will not flush it. It can lead to clutch slippage and necessitate band adjustments or worse. If you have under 75,000 or you can verify that it has been flushed, then absolutely, get it flushed at regular intervals. Clean fluid and regular changes can help insure that you have many years of trouble free service.

thanks, I cannot confirm its been flushed at all. I could email the previous owner, but i am not sure i want to open a line of communication him. he seemed like the could have been a jiffy lube owner.

Trust me, I know what you mean about doing your own work. Since i got this RAM I realized I need to get more tools, and Santa got me jack stands, creeper, 3ton floor jack, and a hayes repair manual.

I change my own oil, hate to do it in the dead of winter, but its easy on the ram, everything is accessible, the wifes pacifica is another story.

thanks for the advice, the truck has 104K on it, and i am sure no service has been done to the tranny.

darn... any my dad always gets on my case about doing repairs myself when they sometimes end up going south(my recent starter screw up 2 be specific.) Hmm... we don't go to jiffy lube, but he always goes to a local goodyear dealer. I wonder how often stuff like that gets done. Oil is easy to spot, but for people who are afraid to get their hands dirty which is at least 75% of people who go to shops like jiffy lubeI would estimate, thats probably how they get away with it for so long. And to be honest, does jiffy lube even stock fuel filters? I mean for a jeep specifically? Hmm... yea well I dont have a jiffylube near me so... I wouldn't know.

Oh and the part I always wondered about the tranny flushes.... what is in the tank that flushes? dex III mercon? but we need atf + 4 (for most of us). Sounds like a bad idea, ... my dad had it flushed at the goodyear dealer and 1000 miles later. tranny failure. @ 82000 miles later.

+1 on the doing the work yourself. My truck has never seen anyone's besides mine on it. I just don't trust people to work on my truck. I can do any job that needs to be done on it. And if there is something i can't figure out i will ask the dealer, but i will do the work. Maybe thats why i never have any of these problems everyone keeps talking about on the forum. Only problems i have is when i break a part while off-roading.

they can't do a proper transmission flush anyways with out changing the filter inside the transmission pan. I love how they just change the fluid and it's all better again lol....that was a good video...thanks for sharing.
