Default speaker wire

So i bought some speaker wire from radioshack for my two tens i have in my truck (wire that goes from amp to subs).. Does it matter what guage I get.. I got 18.. also another dumb question.. I've seen speaker wire that has one clear wire and the other with a black line on it. I know black goes to neg. and the reg. clear goes to pos. The wire i got from radioshack has a white line instead of black.. Is it still the same? just a color diff. Sorry for the dumb questions.. thanks

Yep it doesn't matter if you put the white stripe on the pos or the neg as long as you match it up to the other pos or neg. Your best bet is to stop by a car stereo shop and tell them what you have for subs along with how much power your pushing to them. They will easily be able to tell you what guage wire will work to your benefit.

I'd say the 18 gauge is fine for just wiring up the speakers. Your really wouldn't need more than that unless you are pushing massive amounts of power to some huge speakers, but I'd say you're clear. Just match positive from the amp to the positive on the speaker and the same with the negative and you'll be good to go.

I usually use 14 or 12 gauge wire. If your subs stop working for some reason, check your wiring for continuity first.
