Yes, I read this somewhere else and heard it works to resolve the WOT non-shifting issue i get. I will stand on it from a dead stop and it will hit the rev limiter before it shifts in to 2nd. i talked to another person and they metioned something like this so I googled it. this article you found is great, shows much more detail and better pics. I need to tighten (move it back toward the cab) to make it shift later and make it more in line with WOT. I think the cable had stretched over the last 9 YEARS and 104,000 miles. So I am going to do one notch or so at a time until it shifts WOT in to 2nd just before red line.

if you do it and have a similar issue, let me know, i plan on doing it saturday.

Edit: Added link.
This was found in the DIY section.

Edit: Just did it, tested it at WOT from a dead stop and it shifted in to 2nd just before getting to redline. I did two tests to make sure, both times it shifted as I would expect it to. I als drove through the town to make sure it shifted normally and it shifted at a slightly higher rpm/speed. That is perfect since I always thought it shifted up way to soon. When I leave my driveway its a steep incline and it would shift in to 2nd mid way up, then shift back in to first, doesn't do that anymore.
One issue down. Now I want to change my O2 Sensor (pre-cat).
here is a pic, in the pic on the cable you can see a mark. that is the original location of the cable, it was just at the end of the black rubber cable grommet.
I would guess its about 1/8" or so adjustment.
FYI, you don't have to pull the clip all the way out, just a little until you can move the cable housing by the firewall.

I don't know what the affects would be damage wise, but its just telling the tranny how fast the engine is via the throttle linkage.
I figured over all these years and miles the cable was stretched so I just made the adjustment as you see in the picture in my above post.

I am no mechanic, but at this stage give it a shot, just mark the cable so you can put it back if you don't like it. move it very little and easy on the white clip, it takes some effort to get it to let go...

hmmm, I was trying to get a 0-60 time and noticed it wouldn't shift again at WOT. So I moved it back the other way, about 1/8" over my mark. and it shifted just before redline. anyhow... I hate the shift points now, it shifts too soon.

Edit: corrected a slight typo.

I've had this done for a bit as well to fix the blurring I got from 2nd straight to a really low OD like WayneC had. First time I read this I drove the truck with OD off and then on and accelerated really slowly to check the shift points. third with OD off was way different than with OD on. Readjusted the kickdown cable maybe 1/8" and the truck shifts into OD now around 45MPH and 2100 RPM's and doesn't drop into the "Lugging" range of RPM's anymore. Very happy with the results.

Anyway, I've never had the issue you've had with it in over half a year since I did it last summer and have run WOT several times to test different things. One thing that did cause me issues was a TPS that went bad and killed the OD and made weird shifting issues. Happened on a WOT run and thru a code P0121, I know you probably didn't get a code, but have you messed with yout TPS as well?

Maybe you were just a bit too aggressive on your cable mod, it's really sensitive to minor shifts, as the flange on the valve that's inside the tranny that you're manipulating with that cable is maybe 3/16" thick, and maybe a 5/8" wide, so a movement of a 1/4" is a huge change in flow. Try going back the other way, just not so much, and see if that doesn't help. There's room for fine tuning just about everything on a vehicle, but it might not need as much as you first think. Just don't settle for crappy shifting.
