Default Question about replacing my Hub bearing

I have a 2000 4x4 and I'm going to replace the hub bearings. I've been reading up on doing it but I'm confussed on one part. It says not to totally remove the shaft or it may mess up the seal. Am I correct in that??? If I don't I guess I just unbolt the hub with the shaft partly out. right? what if I want to replace the U joints while I'm down there? does the shaft have to come out than?

thanks for any help
Eric

to just r&r the hub you can leavethe axlein the housing. to r&r the u-joints you have to remove them just becarful and suport them asyou pull them outand slide them in. and the seals should be fine. alotoff. axles have"ramps" for a lack of a beter termin frount of the seal to gide the axle shaft in to thecarrer.just did mine and all is good.

just pull the shafts out they'll come right out. just make sure u have the truck on and put it in 4wd so the CAD engages and it wont fall off when u pull the passenger shaft out
