Gearing Question
Ya know I would completely get bigger gears if they weren't so much money. It's just not worth it to me though. I mean the truck is insane as is in my view (I dont think i want to know how 4.88s would be, so i dont know want to know lol). This truck gets less than 8 seconds 0-60 right now without the headers. I was with my brother, and I was like OK MIKE, Im gonna floor it right now when it turns green and i want you to count how long it takes to 60, because i want to see if the headers will make a differance. I slammed it when it turned green and I just peeled out uncontrollably for a couple of seconds before it finally got traction, and then it roared to 60 under 8 seconds. I cannot wait to get the headers in and get the intake system, i aim to get a flat 7 second 0-60 and hopefully sumthing a little under 7 with those mods are done
You referring to the 4.88s? Also, how much would 4.88s affect highway driving? I know as it stands now, the truck...if he wants to lol...can reach over 100mph...on the highway, i can comfortably travel 80-85 mph...would 4.88s enable that quality still?
You know, I run 30.6" tires with 4.10 gearing and that's supoosedly way overgeared but I like it. I go about2100 to 2400 RPM's on the highway 60~70mph and that's right where the motor gets its best bang for the buck. I can watch the MPG on the overhead computer fly way up after I get over 62mph, about 4~5 mpg gain.
You know why cause the motor is extremely happy, i bet when your runnin down the highway you are barely touchin the throttle, also can youspeed up with out kicking down the tranny????

I have no problems with kickdown, truck drives more like a car and less like a mule than it did before I swapped.
Cereal, I got the extra power and the MPG, best of both. Finally got the engine into useable RPM's. I have reaad before that the 318 was designed to be a higher revving engine while the 5.9 was designed to be a bit more of a low end torque beast.
