Gearing Question
When I was stuck driving in my work van today daydreaming about women and driving my truck, I had a thought pop in my head that I wanted to ask you guys. Right now I have 4.10 gearing. Does that mean 4.10 is in both differentials. Also, since it is 4.10 gearing, does this give my truck any advantage when in 4 wheel drive over trucks with say 3.55 gearing?
YES you would have to have 4.10's in the front end, unless you never used 4 wheel drive. 3.55 and 4.10 would cause severe binding in the transfer case. No you wouldnt have an advantage in 4 wheel drive. maybe even less because you have 4.10's with 35's, probly should have 4.56
You also realize that having 35 inch tires and 4.10 gearing puts you at about the same ration as 31 inch tires on 3.55 gears. So 4.10 is really not so terrible for 35s. 4.88 would be preferable, but it is an expensive swap.
Sure, but all he asked was if he had an advantage having 4.10 gearing in 4 wheel drive over 3.55 and he does... If he had 35 inch tires and 3.55 gears he would be much worse off in wheel drive
The lower the gears the better offroad in general.
Now other trucks with 3.55 gears (supposing they have 35" tires) will have a higher top speed than you... but that's the only real disatvantage of lower gearing. And you can't really drive these trucks faster than 90mph anyway or they start to shake and ****.

Thank you both for your responses. I guess what I was more after was in the general scheme of things, would lower gears effect four wheel drive, and what I got from that is yes. I know 35" tires is a little bit for 4.10 gearing, but as cereal pointed out, it comes out to be 31s on 3.55, which seems pretty standard to me.
