In reference to a truck of course. I was at a local auto shop today, and overheard some dudes talkin about something called a "Death Flash" believe ive seen the word float around here once and awhile.

Complete newb question sorry, but love to learn! Seems to be something people like to remove? I dunno. What is it!

 

It's the term used to describe what Chrysler will do to your PCM as a fix for a cronic pinging problem that some trucks have. It kills your performance.

Yes, a programmer like Hypertech or SUperchips will fix it, or a complete reflash of your PCM from someone like B&G or SCT. Or you could replace your PCM with a new one that isn't death flashed, like a Mopar Performance PCM (if you can find one)

 

I know without looking mine has the death flash re-program. It use to ping like crazy. That stopped. They must have done it on one of the TSB we took it in for.

 

There will be a sticker on your PCM that says something like Authorized Chrysler Program or something like that. That's how you know for sure if you have it.

 

I don't remember correctly- but what about a sticker that says something like 'Authorized Software something or other...' it looks like there might be a couple stickers on the damn thing too....

 

Shut my mouth. I went out and checked my PCM and there is no sticker. I need to check my records to see if it was done without placement of the sticker.

chrysler thought, hey alot of people sure are complaining about a lot of pinging...
lets put out a flash that retards timing like 10-15 degrees so it goes away.... Yes very good idea.

then a few years later.... OOPS.. it was the plenum gasket leaking... and maybe some of it was caused by these spark plugs routed around eachother like a pretzel... hmmm... dur dur dur
