2001 is an easy check. I have to assume that you have the electronic trip meter. Follow this and you'll be able to pull your code(s).

Without starting your engine.
Turn ignition on, then off, then on, then off, then on.

The system will do a check and provide you with the exact ODBCII codes on the trip meter. Write them down.

Once you have them do a search on the forum here to identify what they mean and how others have fixed them.

It shows you the codes on your odometer, not the overhead console.

I do the key trick to find out what it is and either fix it or take it to autozone to have a more detailed explination and the have them cleared.

Once you pull the codes off the computer you can clear them by re-setting your computer yourself. Disconnect the battery and turn your ignition switch to on for a couple minutes. This will re-set the ECM. Once you restart the truck you may notice it running slightly different, but that will change as the computer re-learns how your engine runs.
