What Gear Oil?
Ok this topic was about the additive for the Limited Slip but instead of starting a new topic I figured I'd just change this one.
So here is my new ?
I was told to run at least 80w-90 gear oil in my rear end. I have 4 quarts of Royal Purple 75w-90 in the garage which is also whats in the front. Will this be okay? I want to put it in when I put my Auburn LSD in. I've been running it but put cheap fluid in it today as I don't expect to go much if any over 50 miles before it gets drained again so I didn't want to pay $40 for oil that will only be in there 50 miles. Someone told me it should be fine as long as I don't do a lot of long driving. The problem is I do mostly long driving as in usually an hour + when I go on a trip. Will this be fine or should I try and return to Napa for something else? If I should what should I get? The Royal Purple I only saw in this and one other weight that I forgot what. The second number was in the hundreds. Will this be fine or should I just take it back?
How important was the LSD additive? I went to refill my diff and totally forgot about the additive. I drove about 5-10 miles with no additive in it then when I went to add it I drained a little and added maybe 75% of the tube. It was a pretty darn big tube Advance sold that said to add the whole thing. Will this be okay? I need to drive it another 40 miles or so to the shop then it will have a new Auburn LSD put in. Will it mess up other stuff or only the LSD? Since I'm having the LSD replaced should I worry about it or not?

No it won't mess anything up.
The way I understand it is that the friction additive actually makes the clutches slippery. What you can do when you change the fluid if you want more grip from the lsd is fill it up and then go to a parking lot and turn the truck in a circle. Add the friction additive until it stops chirping the tire. I’ve never actually tried it. As far as ruining anything you should be fine.

no worries.. it think that stuff you added.. traxx something or other.. ive used it before.. i like the mopar bottle alot better... but since your just doing it to get a new one i wouldnt wrry about it.. i would read up on auburn to see what they recomend in there..
most premium diff gear oils nowadays have the LSD additive in it anyway, I think all the syns do. The additive keeps the clutches from overheating under severe use and wear prematurely. You need to get the clutch packs adequately coated and on the factory TracLok, you're supposed to drive in figure 8's to engage the LSD system.
Ok. Thanks guys. I was going to add Royal Purple 75w-90 gear oil as thats what I've run in the past in here but after I got the diff cover off and found more metal from the clip I decided I was just going to get it all fixxed when my new transmission got put in. Being as I was going to drive it 40 maybe 50 miles or so before I got a new LSD put in I didn't want to put $40 worth of RP gear oil in it for 50 miles when I could put $10-15 of cheap oil in for those 50 miles.
