Rear Leaf Spring
On my 2002 2500 4wd I just purchased it has what appears to be a overload spring in the rear. On top of the stack of leaf springs there is a 1" spacer and then a single spring on top. Is this part of a towing package that the truck is equipped with? I have no window sticker and the 3 or 4 other 2002 2500's I looked at none of them has this spring. A co-worker has the same year, make and model and his does not have it either. This spring is marked like the others with "front" and a part number so it looks original.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it's factory. My guess is it's either dealer installed or aftermarket. You can make sure by taking you VIN to your local dealer and getting a Star Network Report on your truck (it's even free to get). It's a print out of every option your truck came with.
I stopped by my local dealer prior to reading your reply Ramtuff. So, I will go back to get the report. However the dealer said it is from the factory because of the stops that are welded to the frame for that extra spring. If someone added a spring they would not have welded anything to the frame. I guess I will find out when I get the report. Thanks.
You usually will find that on HD truck (3/4 or 1 ton)...my dad's F-250 KingRanch Powerstroke has one also...it is like an overload spring, it helps when you are loaded down and act like a stiff dampner so that you don't overload your rear leafs...and yes i also, could be wrong
I got my report today. Thanks guys. If anyone cares it does have a option code of XZBP for rear auxillary springs. Where can I get these codes broken down? The truck hase the heavy duty snow plow prep, the camper special group and the heavy duty service group. I just want to know what is in the packages.
