Default My new truck.

Love it! lol ill post some pics later. Its a 1500 99 quad cab sport.4x4 with the 360. It has a problem though..... Horrible gas milage! lol i dont know what size tank i have but i think its a 26g? i calculated 10 mpgs! not cool. lol i was thinkin wheni got it around 12 or 13. Im at school now so i havnt checked the plenum. But it has alot of power? so i dont think thats bad. But im also coming of a ram v6.lol I filled the tank up half way and its already at 1/8 a tank! ive only driven 50 miles!. also it was pinging and rattleing when i got it from dealer. put high octane 93 and octane booster in it and now its gone. Also sometimes you can here a valve or lifter? when idleing. is this normal for the 360? all in all ****ing sweet truck!

The pinging is probably from a leaky plennum gasket...

When the gasket is bad some will ping... if its that bad your power WILL increase, along with mileage.

How many miles are on it?

Maybe give it a good tune-up first, see if that fixes the pinging. New plugs, cap, rotor, and clean up the throttlebody. Some trucks are imfamous for pinging, even without a leaky plenum. That is why Chrysler invented the death flash.

Gratz on the new ride and all Dodges get bad gas mileage As far as the tank size do you have the 6' or the 8' bed? 6' has the 26 gal tank 8' has the 35 gal. Ping sounds like it could be the plenum as for the valve or lifter noise are you sure you arent just hearing the injectors ticking? Cause I used to think the same thing till I was told that the Magnums just have loud injectors.

The injectors? sweet! i didnt think of that. it could be. I have a 6' bed so 26 gallon tank. Is pinging bad for the eninge? i just get so scared when i get on the gas when it does that. I just dont want to break my new ride. lol Could it be the guy before me programed the engine to run high octane? Because she doesnt ping at all when the octane is good. im changing the oil this weekend for sure. i dont know whats in it. would it be ok if i put reg oil in it if there was synthetic before? also sea foam before oil change or after? If you take the oil cap off and it sucks in alot of air is that a sign the plenum is bad?

the way I have always checked the plenum besides looking down the bores is with the engine running remoce the pcv valve and the crankcase breather on the other side and block the holes with your hands for a few seconds upon removal of hands if it blows air out your gasket is prolly good but if you feel suction something is leaking

The injectors are a steady tick tick tick but now that I think of it my old dakota had a bad timing chain that would rattle on and off at idle that sounded like a rod rattling around if you can try to load a sound clip of the engine idling and someone on here might be able to tell you what it is

Welcome on here. Gas mileage also depends on tire sire. When I got my truck it had 116000 miles on it and 245/75R16 tires, which i averaged around 16 mph on interstate. Now it has 142000 miles and i am running 285/75R16 tiresand i am now getting about 10-11 mph on interstate. If you want mileage i would suggest going to a disealand putting a Bully Dog chip in it. You would get about 21-22 mph then.

I tried checkin the plenum and pluged both hoses and it was sucking alot! almost like it was gona stall. was i doing this right? Also is pennzoil fine for these engines? I dont have the time or the resources (living in apartment with no tools all at my parents house) to do an oil change so im gona have jiffy lube do it 25 bucks not bad? Ive always done it myself on my vehchles but never a buisness. What do you think?

Cover the holes in valve covers not the hoses or remove the air box and open the butterflies on the TB and look inside if there is a pool of oil its leaking but a film is normal. I personally havent used penzoil in my truck but my grandfather used it in all his cars and swore by it.
