Default Ticking out of exhaust

I was wondering if anyones ever heard of a ticking noise coming out of the exhaust. It only does it sometimes, and I only notice it at idle, or slightly above... My trucks got a completely hollow cat, with a tip welded right to it, so the literal 'end' of the exhaust is about where the bed meets the cab, maybe a little farther back. It's not coming from under the hood, I popped it and checked, listened to the valve covers, felt them, no noise, and no clunking. When I give it a little gas, and bring the rpms up about 200 or so, it gets faster as the motor revs, but then I can't hear it anymore. Occasionaly the truck starts kind of hard too... any ideas??

In my experience (at least with VW bugs) a ticking exhuast meant an exhaust leak near the header. usually it was the gasket between the head and the header.

Good luck,

Or could it possibly be like the ticking sound you get when shutting off the truck and the exhaust metal is cooling. When your at idle and not going down the road the temp may change.

Then again, with your exhaust system, I'm sure it would need to be a significant tick to even hear it. Not metal cooling or heating.
