What mods do U suggest
I have a 99 dodge sport extended cab 2wd with 5.2. I have built a cold air intake for it installed a flowmaster and tried electric fans. I didnt notice a bump in hp torque or really any noteable change at all except with the electric fans. man they really brought the truck alive until they would not cool enough for the hot summer andI had to put the old fan back on to keep the temp back on.
What im looking for are good suggestions on mods that will help give my 5.2 some extra umph without changing to a 5.9 or somthing extravagant like superchargers or nitrous. I am moderately mechanically inclined butI dont trust myself with the internals of the motor or valvetrain. Also suggestions that dont kill mgp or even help it out.
I am considering a fastman but thoughtI would ask what else is out there that is cost effective.
I recommend a round filter assembly feeding air into a Fastman TB. 1.7 ratio rockers, and a free flow exhaust. You should be able to do all that for less then $1000, and it will make a noticable differnece in how the truck performs. These are the basics, and work well. After that though, it can start to get expensive (custom PCM's, cams, heads, gears, etc...).
Well, you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that mods which give you boosts in power and torque usually make gas mileage go down.[
](not always)That is just a fact of life. If you could run a 400hp V8 and get 20MPG, someone would be getting rich from aftermarket upgrades.
Although, having a 2WD, you're a little ahead of the game already. The basic starting points for most people who want to upgrade their vehicle is normally by opening up the air intake and exhaust. With the 2WD, you should be worried more about power than raw torque, so I would say start with a good intake, exhaust and headers...then move to the Fastman 52mm. Just make sure the engine can breathe before you start giving it more fuel and air. Also, don't forget, with more power there comes a need for better brakes and suspension, so don't leave those on the back burner. Happy modding and welcome
Edit: Also I believe a good ignition system may be beneficial. I don't know everything about it, but most hot rods have a good MSD ignition, so it must be a good place to drop some cash!

here's some free and cheap ones to get you started. None of them are going to turn it into a drag truck, but they'll start to add up after a while:

The only one I don't suggest is the IAT location swap. I think all it does is richen the fuel mixture and cause you to lose MPG.
Keep in mind, some mods will "get better" as you do others. For instance, you'll gain more out of the fastman TB if you open up the exhaust.

thanks for all the info and that yet to come in ref to the fans they were datekI think. I got them at oriellys the largest they make maybe 17 or 19 inch they fit side by side on the back of the radiator and performed well for a summer and winter but last summer when it got hot real hot they just would not keep up I did not have them on a therm they were wired direct to ignition source. but talk about come alive it was a substantial boost
