Default Transmission Question

Hi, I am new to Dodge Forum. I have a 1999 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 with the 5.9 V8. The reason I am posting is because my transmission is acting a little funny. It doesn't always want to shift into overdrive. It seems to do fine when I am traveling under 60mph but when I'm driving 70 mph on the interstate I sometimes have to give it gas or let off for a second to try and trick it into shifting. Also, sometimes when I hit a bump in the road it will shift out of O/D...now that I think about it though I would think there would be a bigger jump in rpm's shifting out of O/D,it only changes by about 400 rpm (from about 1800 to 2200). Any ideas??? Could the cold weather here have anything to do with it...I have only had the truck for about 2 weeks and it's been 25 degrees F or lower most of the time. Thanks!

The answer to your question about cold weather effecting your transmission is "yes". I also have a 99 Ram, and it won't shift into overdrive until it is warmed up. The dealership told me that is something programed into the controller.

x2...I think it is normal for all OD-equipped trannies to warm up before engaging...

It is doing this even once the tranny is warmed up though. It seems like it starts doing it about 10 minutes after I've been driving...after it has already shifted into overdrive.

sounds to me like you have a check valve sticking in the tranny line to the radiator.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know anything about transmissions...where would I find the check valve, what does it look like, and how do I know if it's not functioning properly. Thanks!
