4.56's on there way!!!
Oh, one other quick question...My truck is a 98. I'm not exactly sure where/how/when splits happened in how they run the speedo. I'm guessing between the 97/98 split because of the other mechanical to computer controlled changes. But if anyone could verify for me, I use the Superchips programmer to correct my speedo for the tire size, but it says nothing about gears. Will these new gears affect that?

You don't need to adjust for gears, none of the programmers do that for our trucks.

stupid question....but you did grab 2 sets of gears right ?

... Yup, sure did as well as master installs for both too!
They showed up today. It took a little longer because they forgot to put my apt. number on it. The parts I need for my t-case will be here tomorrow. So I will finish up the t-case rebuild tomorrow night and then probably get the gears installed this weekend. Wish me luck!!
because the sensor reads off of the rear axle carrier not the drive shaft.
when you change your ratio you change the # of drive shaft revolution compared to wheel rotations.
so if you get lower gears (numerically higher) say 4:56 your drive shaft spins 4 1/2 times for each tire revolution. so a 60mph (really any speed) your tires are still turning the same speed just the drive shaft is spinning faster.
The only time you have to calibrate speedo with this system(98+)is if you run a bigger (or smaller tire)
The reason thisis is because a taller tire has a bigger diameter. The bigger tire travels a longer distance in one revolution than the smaller tire.

I must say, I'm impressed with the various levels of expertise on this site. It seems like someone here always has a deeper knowledge about a question than the standard "Not sure why, but it is" answers. (sorry for the side-note)

the just shown model year 2009 Ram 1500
has in its press release that it has a new 'helical gear' limited slip differential
and it might be worth finding out who makes it
if dealerships in the future will be stocking parts and have techs with trainning.
