Hey guys, I was just wondering how to tell if my truck has a factory tow package. It does have the receiver/hitch and button on the end of the shifter to turn off OD, but that seems standard on all Rams. What is a sure-fire way to tell??? Could I just check for a factory tranny cooler? If so, where are those located?

im not sure if this is an accurate way to tell but my truck has a mopar plug on the hitch i also have a trans. cooler mounted in front of my radiator and when i went to get a shift kit put in the shop said it already had one but my truck was pre owned so the could have been add ons

 

Tow package trucks should be equiped with H.D cooling, trans cooler and Power steering cooler. Depending on the year, you may have 3:92 gears as well on a1500, although that's not a hard/fast rule.

 

PM me the last 8 digits of you VIN and I can tell you if it have the tow package....

 

I believe if you a trans temp light that means you have a trans cooler which also means factory tow package.

My light is on the bottom right area of the heat/air controls.

And of course it should come on when the key is first turned on

 

The tow package also has a high output alternator.

 

I do have a trans temp light flash comes on when I start it up, but it is located on the instrument panel, underneath the tach. I haven't seen anything mounted anywhere that looks like a factory tranny cooler, but where exactly are the factory ones located?

 

You might E-mail Dodge and request a build sheet. Might take a day or two.

Well, I have a build sheet for it, but it doesn't say anything about a tow package. However, I don't know if I trust it 100% or not, because it also says I have the 231HD t-case when I actually have the 231D.
