ROYAL PURPLE AND HEADERS

I forgot which magazine it was, but I read a while back that by using the Royal Purple motor oil, the car in question gained 5-6 hp using the Royal Purple race oil. I believe it was a 4th gen F-body, but I'm not too sure.
HOWEVER, there was an analysis done on the Royal Purple race oil after the first couple of passes, and the oil was shown to have broken down after a couple of passes on the strip. They specifically recommend AGAINST using Royal Purple race grade motor oil in any street driving application as it will break down and lose viscosity rather quickly.
So, in short, standard Royal Purple is for the street; "race grade" Royal Purple is for the track. Bottom line.

yea some more retarded ricer wives tale there. Oil falls apart after hard driving!! WAH!! Id like to laugh at this site right now, but I think were being serious.
Its oil...its a stock motor....run regular oil. its nothing scientific
Longtubes too.
To the original poster,
Do not put regular Royal Purple in your headers, use the race grade instead, you'll gain like 5~6hp. Save the regular for your muffler bearings and be sure to replace that Kuhneutson Valve...

The stuff I was referring to was the 0W Royal Purple motor oil. It doesn't take a scientist to figure out that a 0W oil isn't designed for 3,000+ miles of operation, only for short periods of time at a local drag strip or circle track.
And since when is a Camaro or Firebird a rice burner? If that's so, then I need to trade in my rice-burning Dodge Ram for the muscular Toyota Tundra or Nissan Titan [8D]

Your right for the wrong reasons. The 0 weight oil does not break down any faster or less faster than their other weight oils. Its just a lighter weight, offering less protection. Something that isnt as nessissary with circle track motors that have very high oil pressure as well as getting rebuilt after each race for the mostpart. So yes, 0w oil isnt for general service use.
the cars arent rice burners....its all about the owners.
see...sometimes they come up with this

That makes the 300ZX I saw earlier look like a muscle car!
Gads, who would ruin a Camaro like that, honestly?!?

Heh, looks like we threadjacked the OP's question.
So yes, in short, fill your long tube headers with Royal Purple racing oil and it won't take as much power to push it out.
