Default help removing a body lift.....

So my roommate just recently traded his 98 wrangler for a 99 Ram 1500 lifted 8 inches (5 inch suspension, 3 inch body) and he and i both agree that taking the body lift off would be the best plan of action here knowing how bad body lifts can be on a truck. If you disagree thats fine I really don't care I have seen enough bad things go wrong with them to make me feel they hurt the truck more than improve the truck. So I am trying to find out some instructions on how to remove it. I have done a search but couldn't find anything. Is it as simple as just support the body, take the bolts out raise body enough to remove the pucks, lower body, reinstall bolts? Or are there other things that were re-located that need to be re-located back to the original position? Do things like transmission and t-case linkages need to be adjusted? Basically whats involved and how do I go about doing it.

Depends on the kit used to raise it. If u could find the directions to install and reverse it. I helped a buddy do the same thing one weekend. We went to the junk yard got some new linkages and supported the body. as for relocation of parts... Gotta look to see what was moved around. One weekend an common sense and u should have it back to normal. Then just double check ur bolts and wires.

What linkages did you replace? Was it necessary? Do body lift kits include new linkages where necessary? I don't know anything about them except how bad they are. Can the bolts in there now be re-used once back down to stock or should I get stock ones from a junkyard?

There not that bad dude, most people put body lifts on rotted out pieces of **** and the block goes through the bed or cab, imagine that. I also dont suggest a body lift if you wheel alot

thats fine if you don't think they are that bad thats your opinion but I believe they are extremely dangerous to install thats why most reputable shops won't install a body lift if you already have a suspension lift or install a body lift if you already have a suspension lift. The 4 Wheel Parts in my area denied a buddy of mine when he was thinking about doing it on his old Chevy that had the old Rancho 4 inch. But like I said I don't want this thread to be about whether or not body lifts are good or bad or ok or not. I just want to know how to take one off. Please do not turn this into an argument or debate thread. I am just trying to get some information my buddy doesn't have to pay some shop a bunch of money to do something we can do for free and we are college students and don't have that kinda money.

You will need the stock bolts and bushings to replace the BL spacers and bolts. You may also need to check how they extended the gas filler neck, bumper brackets. Linkages may have been changed, but I don't think most people worry about it that far. I'd say to just take a quick look at the linkages and see how new they look. Very rarely would they have to be replaced otherwise. In all honesty though, the linkages in these trucks can be adjusted quite easily, so I'd bet (if they worried about it) that's all they did.

If you don't already have a buyer for that kit try selling it in the classified section here or over at pavementsucks.com

There's lots of people looking for an extra few inches of lift to clear tires. Especially the guys the rock crawlers. They don't like eating up their fenders.

And you're going to need the stock bolts, because the ones with the lift are 3 inches too long.

I wouldn't foresee you having a problem with that. I might not center teh puck RIGHT where the hold is or anything dumb, but I think what he's refering to is really more like poeple who buy beater trucks from the 70s that is a rotted all to hell because they don't want to put any money into a trail rig (which is stupid, all hobbies cost money, and offroading costs more than most) so they put on a body lift because it's a cheap way to clear tires (that they probably haven't upgraded the axels for either)then go out and jump it or something stupid.
