Default Supercharging, your thoughts?

Not that I have the money right now or anything, but I've been thinking about forced induction a little lately. What I'd really like to know is if its possible to run 89 octane fuel with a 6 - 8 pound supercharger. What kind of mods would you have to install? colder plugs help? how about the 180 t-stat? would an msd have any influence? or isretarding the ignition the only way to keepit from detonating?

I would imagine that 89 would work okay for a supercharged engine considering the SC frontiers only require 87. But if you thought mpg sucked in these trucks before, definitely don't expect it to get better. You are looking at 2-3 mpg drop w/ a SC.

The cooler plugs are to help the detonation issues.

You will need someone to tune it (or a safe tune from the SC manufacturer). 89 is a pipe dream. I run 94 in mine with an aggressive tune. I can run 91 if I use one of my other tunes. The lower the octane the higher the chance for detonation andas a result the higher the chance of boom.

Yes I understand that lowering the octane brings the engine closer to detonation. I only ask because my last rig had a high octane tune and more than once I ended up in a place that didn't have high octane fuel causeing me to detune the rig so I could use the fuel. Only problem with a supercharger is that you can't exactly pull the thing off if you can't get your hands on premuim fuel. I was just wondering if it could be done with a moderate tune and some tricks to bring the engine away from detonating.

Well you probably shoulnd't use a supercharged truck as your daily driver, but if you must then why not just keep a 5 gallon gas can full of high octane in the bed?

you can only retard the timing so much before it doesnt run. If your running a rig that needs 93+ octane, youll know where you have to go, and youll make sure you have enough gas left to get there.
