NEED MAJOR HELP! 4x4 goping in and out
Hello all, i am new to the site and hate to start it out this way, But I have a problem, and do not know where to start. I have a 2001 ram ext cab. I have been experiencing some problems with the 4x4. Whe the truck is in 2wd it runs fine, but when I shift it in to 4wd it bounces in and out, i noticed it awhile ago, but now it does it constantly, It makes noises when trying to engage and disengage. when left in though it keeps wanting to disengage. PLEASE HELP.... It is snowing out now, lol. Thanks..
what do you mean by bouncing in and out ? are you referring to the light on the dash, the cad on the front axle, or the shifting lever and/or transfer case.
here's the scoop on the cad..

if you hold the shifting lever back, does the t-case stay engaged ?
if so, it could be a linkage problem, or something inside the t-case.

No the light is operating normally. The transfer case is shifting it and out when I go to engage it. Making popping noises. 4 loew works fine I am having the problem in hi range. Thanks for helping me...
a common problem with these t-cases is a broken snap ring that lets things move around where they are not supposed to go. popping noises are not good. you should not use it in gear position that does that. something simple could quickly blow up into something major. i'll look for some of the articles.

Pretty good articles there dhvaughan. I noticed that case saver a while ago but had forgot about it. Since I'm currently rebuilding my t-case, maybe I'll have to put that in to prevent future damage.
