Oh, okay, knew that, but didn't know an auto parts store sold the paint in a spray can.

thanks! I might even be able to google it.

I just took a closer look, at the very bottle edge its paper thin. I am sure any grinding I will lose the straight bottom edge.
I'll go snap a close up of the rot and see if anyone has a suggestion.
can't afford to get a new/replacement door or take it to the shop. but hate driving with it like that, I work with a bunch of people who have trucks so I need to represent as best I can.

Edit: Added pics.

To fix it the right way involves cutting out the rot and welding in new metal. Then priming and painting the bottom of the door.I did my a year and 1/2 ago and still looks great. I've been doing body work for many years though,so I would say it's a job for a Pro. BTW.the doors rust on the bottom because they need to have extra drain holes drilled in them along the inside bottom edge.

Thanks. figured as much...

I will just let it rot until I can find a salvaged door.

Thanks.

Damn New England weather. When I got this truck I test drove about 5 RAMs, all with the same rot. I liked mine because it was on the passenger side so i didn't have to see it all the time, but that backfired on me. When its parked in the garage I have to walk by it all the time. UGH.

I might try the rust neutralizer just to keep it from rotting the door off.

Go ahead and fix it, its not bad enough to need a whole new door. Use the neutralizer, knock off the excess rust, get some bondo, shape it, then prime and paint it.

Will the bondo hold on the bottome edge? i have only used it once to fix a metal house door that had BB gun dents.
I should use the neutralizer on the inside as well right to keep it from continuing.

think I will do this in the early spring time. thanks.

Yeah, use the neutralizer anywhere you see rust. The bondo should hold up fine so long as you dont get crazy with it, for that little bit it will be alright.

Or check out POR15. They make a pretty good product but you have to follow the instructions. Then you could rough it up, bondo it, prime, and paint.

If you are going the route of DIY I'm with burban 2002 - use the POR15 product line. The lower end rust nutralization products - spray cans - didn't do jack.

My local auto body shop told me it was cheaper to buy two new doors and canabalize the existing parts then it would be to cut the rust out and then fabricate.

Good luck.
