while searching for no idle - noticed recurring theme
son just bought a 99 Ram 4 door laramie 4wd, drove it back to tennessee from Florida. Battery ran down as I left the cargo light on. Jumped it and now it will not idle. Runs fine but just won't idle. Did a search of the threads here on no idle and noticed a pattern. Seems the majority of the no idle problems all have something in common - a dead battery. Reading through the posts, pretty much all of them talk about how truck was running fine, the battery went dead and now it won't idle. Some people have put in a new battery and even a alternator, others have just charged their battery but still have the problem..
So, seems to me that it has to do with something about the battery going dead. The first 4 posts I read about this all were doing fine until the battery died and it was jumped.
Any ideas what the problem could be ? I see a pattern, just don't see a solution.
Thanks for any info

I have seen a few guys on here with this problem, and it took a while for their pcm to reset after losing power from the battery dying. Hopefully someone who has experienced this will speak up. Did you try purging the power by disconnecting the battery, turning the key to on, then reconnecting the battery? May work...not sure. Sit tight...someone will chime in...
What part of TN you from?

just something to try - resetting the pcm...
if the battery was out of the vehicle for a couple of hours, then its already reset.
but if not, then the pcm may hold some parameters and need reset. try this.
disconnect neg battery cable.
turn ignition to start, and hold it there for 60 sec. some people say 30, but i've had it not reset at 30. reconnect battery and fire it up. it should clear all codes and revert to all factory defaults.
the main control for proper idle is the IAC. you'll hear it make a whistling noise when it opens up (faster idle), and quieten down as it closes up (slower idle).

You probably have a worn out IAC. The PCM can adapt if it slowly fails but when the batt runs dead or is disconnectedthe PCM loses it adaptive memory and reverts to default values.
The PCM could eventually relearn and adapt but that can take days or weeks depending driving time and style.
Try to feather the idle with the gas pedal. Try and keep it running around 500 rpm with the pedal and the pcm Should increase IAC opening to compensate.
You need to replace the IAC motor soon. Its a very common part. They fail on almost all Chrysler products eventually.
