Do you buy.....
....your own tires? Or reasons to buy new instead of used.
While searching for a sound clip of a 2nd gen ram with a Gibson exhaust, I saw this. I know it's fun, but I don't have that kind of money for tires. [&:]

Ya I buy my own tires.
Do you know someone who will buy them for me?
Why buy used? Unless your on an extremely tight budget or your car/trucks a beater it doesn't make much sense to buy someone's worn out junk. If you can find a matching set with 80% or better tread left at a great price, maybe... Most of the stuff I see is junk.
Now If your just burning rubber for show, that's a different story

Usually I get new tires.
I did however put used tires on my Honda. I worked at a shop that sold a lot of tires and the Owner had put a set of Michelins on his wifes Accord. She ended up not liking them so he took them off and gave them to the other guy that worked there. He got tired of them sitting in the garage and didn't use them like he planned. I got to where I needed new tires and he told me that if I wanted I could have all 4 of them for free and that they had about 95% tread left. I couldn't pass that up. I ended up putting them on there only because they were free an almost new.
I however liked my Toyo's better traction wise. The Michelins seem to wear like iron but don't seem to do the best traction wise. I was going to go back to Toyos but I got a incredible deal on Falkiens or whatever they are from Discount Tire when they had a sale. About half the price of Toyo's so I have them in the basement to try next. I couldn't pass up 4 new tires for $140 either when they wanted $360 for the Toyo's.
I've never put used tires on my truck or the other cars though except when I punctured the sidewall on my truck tire and I had one that I had used in the past with about 70% tread left so I put that on. I guess it was used but it was used by me. I had bought it new when I originally put it on. The Caprice still has the Michelins that I got with the car though. It was my grandmothers and she put them on there. They are the same way as the Hondas though they just don't hook very well but they wear well. The newer 06 Accord has the Michelins that came on it also and they hook a little better although they are a little more agressive and on factory 17"s. I still don't think they come anywhere close to the Toyo's quality though. I think I will go back to Toyo's for the cars unless I get an awesome deal on something else.

I'd be careful of buying used tires and check them for plugs, broken bands, etc. I have done it, but from a guy whoI knew and trusted...plus theyhad about 85% tread left. I would buy new if you can at all.
I buy recaps for the back, they cost 50$ a pop for 245/75/16, I use new tires on the front because if the front tire blows off goin 70 mph you got problems
