Default Gears and Tires

Okay, I have a little bit of a problem. I'm needing new tires and I never changed at my gears. Right now I have almost 33" BF. Question about gearing, I know I lost performance and suffer gas mph drops with the 33's in using the stock 3.55. With money being tight right now, would going to a size smaller 265/75R/16's (Stock tire on door sticker says 225/75r/16) help out with performance issues and help gas MPH? I drive about 110 miles a day back in forth to work with both city and highway mileage. I would like to keep this size but just can't spend the money on buying tires (About $600 installed) plus 4.11 or 4.56's gears (About $800 installed). It's no doubt that I have to get tires now, LOL (Damn Lead foot of Mine).

Thanks,
DMan.

my truck came with 285 and stock gearing, which is what im assuming you BG are. i got new BG AT last winter and went down to 265 (mostly cause of price) but as far as handling different you cant tell much different aside from enw tread. and i did see my gas mileage raise a small amount not a huge signifignace. but also stopped burning ruber at every late due to the new 600$ of rubber that needs to last me for at least 5 years. i would like to get new gears. but the truck does just fine stock with 265, in mud, snow, hills, highway, i ahvent gotten stuck and it still pushes well at 95mph

Where the heck did you find gears and someone to install it for $800. Install alone should be about that. Gears are another $500 or so.

To answer your question though, yes, the smaller tire will help you to match your gears a little better. It will improve your gas mileage and reduce stress on your drivetrain.

That should set off Red flags right there.
Definitely ask lots of questions before you let them work on your truck.

haha...I didn't notice that...doh[&:]

In that case, why so expensive? 2WD would be about $450-500 here. $300 for labor and 150-200 for a nice set of gears and master install for that 9.25
