I have a 1995 dodge ram 5.9 4X4 with 150,000 miles. I just bought this truck recetly. My problem is that when I engauge the 4X4 it takes forever for it to kick in and out. Anyone have any ideas on what usually causes this. It's kind of a hassle when it's not there when I need it. Your info is valued thankx.

 

Does it take forever when you shift into 4H while in motion? Or only when you are sitting still?

 

You have a problem with the vacuum shifter on the front axle, you can replace it with an after market cable shifter or buy a new vacuum unit.

It doen't kick in while moving or standing sill or in drive neutral and reverse.
