73 360 into a 98 ram?
I have a 1973 360 and I want to know if I can just use the short block and put all my accesorys on that and use it in my 98 ram. my rams 360 is fine but i would like a bigger cam ported heads. i drive a total of 12 miles a week. but 5 times a year i pull my trailer with my 77cj 7 on it ti dressor WI. that tround trip is 100miles. im looking to take about a year or so. i have tomany irons in the fire. maybe make a 408 out of my 73 360.
It COULD work but it's not worth it. Your old 360 is carburated, your new 360 has electronic fuel injection.
The old 73 360 has like 170hp I think as appose to the 98 360 having like 245.

im thinking of using just the shortblock and rebuild a diffrent set of heads and bolting on all of the efi stuff. and no the dizzy is in the back on all small block mopars.and i would make a 408 out of the 360
just use the motor out of your truck, it would make it really simple, I honestly wouldnt screw around with a 30 year old motor, Dump the money into your 5.9 in your truck and be amazed

nothing, Old motors are better than the new ones, but i think it would be less of hassle for the thread starter to just rebuild his motor in his truck,I dont know the differences between a 70's 360 and a 98 360, despite the fact that the older one is not a magnum motor
You can not put an old 360 into a late model truck because the moter mounts. If you look at the way both moters mount up you will see the diff. You can bolt a magnum moter into a old ride because they have both style moter mounts. As for being a 30 year old moter I would take that 73 360 in a second. It was the 1st year for the 360 and was basicly a underbored 340. There is a ton of meat to take out the cylinder walls to bore!!!!!!! This would make a killer stroker moter! A lot smallblock guys consider that block to be the holygrail of factory small blocks because how much you can bore ithang to it.
thanks beaner i didnt know if the mounts where the same anlong with the head bolts. i will just get a newer 5.9L 360 to take my time a rebuild maybe a 408 stroker for fun in my ram the way i drive my ram it should last years more mainly i only drive it about 1,500 miles a year. im not kidding i drop off the kids to school and pick them up that is 6 miles a day for two days a week and the rest some running around and 6 trips or so to 4 wheelin.
