Radio and dome lights?
Hi, this is my first post here so hear me out maybe some 1 has some information to help me out,
Im working on a 2002 2500 diesel and i changed the radio out a while back with an aftermarket, worked great,
untill i had the wonderfully bright idea of installing my ipod accessory to the back of the unit.
it required me to splice into the hot battery line, but when i finished, the radio and ipod would cycle on and off on their own, like every second along with the sounds of the radio relay. i obviously screwed up some how so when i took everything apart of course i forgot to disconnect the battery and i shorted the hot battery line. Now i get no radio power or any power to the dome lights. i spent 2 hours and changed every relay in the truck that i could find, the ones in the box in the engine compartment and also in the driver side of the dash. to no avail the lights are still out and i gave up. so 2 questions
1 is where is the fuse/breaker that controlls the radio always hot battery line? (i get power on acc. but not on the hot battery line)
2 what is the big blue plastic unlabeled relay thing in the driver side dash fuse panel? i removed it and everything still worked the same and re installed it no change maybe thats what is wrong?
any help would be highly apreciated i dont want to take this to a dealer over a fuse but aparently im not looking in the right place lol
and yes i changed every fuse! and they were all good the ones i took out and the ones i put in .0001 ohms on the scale lol
thanks guys

The power constant fuse is under the dash, Let me look it up I know I made a note of it. I don't have a Diesel though.
A friend of mine friend the AC in his Denali doing something similar. I know it stinks but I hoped you learned to
ALWAYS UN-HOOK THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WHEN DOING ELECTRICAL WORK.
There has to be a simpler solution. Do you have a tone/test meter? Something you could hook up to a lead and then see where it originates. If not get one for $10 at harbor freight hook it up to your power wire and trace it back to either the short or the blown fuse.

lol yeah i know not to hook the battery but of course i was in a rush and being a dumbass lol i wish they used circut breakers like the aircraft i work on, just pull the one ur working on and go to town.
no i dont have a tone generator but i guess i will have to get one, i just ordered the chassis book from dodge so it should come in a few days. my only other problem is once i find/fix this fuse, i need to figure out why the head unit just blinks and turns off every second or so when it had power. wierd almost like it was tripping some kind of self reseting circut breaker, either way thanks for the help

oh i do have the tester you are thinking of im sorry u mean an ohm meter, but unfortunatly there are a hell of alot of wires under the dash i would be affraid to screw something else up while undoing the wire bundles. thank you again
i found it finally under the dash was a "Iod" fuse 10 amp with a plastic guard on it, now if i can just figure out where this case ground wire used to be hooked up to make the radio work id be happy, ufortunatly i think i pulled it off when i installed the radio
