Default stereo

I bought my 96 Ram 2nd hand about 5 years ago. The FM side of the stereo worked only part-time with the original owner and now, not at all. Was the sound system pretty good for that year, and did I just get a bad one? Guess I just need to buy a new system.

Go to your local junkyard an get a infinity stereo(if your looking for cheap stock). Its a good quality there made speperate from the normal. 98-02 had the cd player. I had a normal one that sucked and for 25 bucks got one that bolted right in and its plug and play all the stock connectors will work 10 min job for great sound without great expense. Most junk yards have them out already which saves time.

i wouldn't waste time or money on a stock unit. get a simple aftermarket that plays mp3, maybe satellite ready, aux input, whatever features you want. a pair of new speakers.

Is that picture the Infinity one or the regular one?

I had that one and it just sucked. I'd recommend getting a aftermarket H/U. You can get ones a lot nicer that sound a lot better and have a lot more features for not very much nowadays. A lot cheaper than what a dealer would want you to pay for a stock one. For $150 there are some decent radios out there and for under $200 you can get a really nice one nowadays from a big brand like Alpine or similar.

Our biggest problem with the first few years is the drink holder above the radio. Any spillage or sweat drips on the radio and causes electrical issues and sticking buttons. Get a drink holder that goes on the front of the center arm rest and avoid future issues with the new radio. Aftermarket deck is the way to go....
