okay, i am a newbie to this forum, i am making a deal with my dad on his 01 dodge ram, this past monday the transmission finally went out with 209,688, the last 100k+ it had been slipping, and lost overdrive about 60k miles ago, so here are the specs
2001 1/2 ton, automatic, 2wd. what all (year) transmissions will work on this? just 2000-2001? would one from an 04 with a Hemi work? i am not very familiar with Dodge's, was a prior chevy guy, and have owned lots Fords, any help is appreciated.

 

i forgot to add it has a 318 in it, again any help is appreciated

 

Don't know for sure. The 4wd one has the 46RE but I don't know if the 2wd is the same or not.

 

anyone? will only 2000-2001 transmissions swap in right?

 

It is a 46RE. If you have a junk (salvage) yard near they should have a interchange book.

 

well, on car-part.com it only comes up listing 2000 and 2001's, but i'm wondering if you can change some wiring or anything and put in a newer transmission.

 

I am pretty sure it is 46RE, but it could be a 42RE since its the 5.2, not sure though, I know my 2500 has the 46RE. I don't see why any other 2wd 46RE wouldn't work if that is the case I think they were made 96 to 2002 maybe. Someone correct me if I am wrong
