Default Tire Question

Hello everyone Just got a few questions. Im in the market for new tires. I would Like to go with 35s but im unsure of the gas millage and the effect it would have on my tranny. Im also considering 33s. Gears are currently not in my budget but in a few months they will. Also if anyone would recoment the right gear ratios. Its a 99 dodge ram 1500 4x4 auto 3.55 gears.

Thank you

With 3.55 gears, 33's will make the truck more useable/drivable. They will not noticably affect your power. If you put on 35's the power will take a hit. If you spend much time running 60-75 on the highway you will spend a lot of time turning the O/D button off to pick up speed on normal inclines. If you tow a trailer you will leave the O/D off the whole time. With O/D off you will be running 2800-3000RPM's jamming down the highway. That was me with road rage driving. It makes it easier to fight slack drivers in the left lane, but kills MPG. If you leave the O/D on the pickup is week and will possibly strain the trans. Me I'd turn the O/D off as soon as I started the truck and would only use it running 75MPH or better on flat ground.

As far as gas mileage goes, there are variables to consider. The tire diameter of the tire will throw of the speedometer reading. Mine was off by 10%. So while calculating gas mileage you need to add 10% to the miles traveled, so the mileage is really not as bad as presumed without the corrected miles traveled. When I thought I was getting 9-10, I was actually getting 12-13 pulling a 16' enclosed trailer without O/D at 70MPH. Around the house with normal, for me, driving, 13-14.7mpg. I'm not a nice guy on the way to work....
