Default Tranny List

Later in the year I want to get one of these "bulletproof" trannies and while I'm up thinking about it, I just want to see people with aftermarket/rebuilt trannies and would like to hear pro's and con's about them. So if you could list the year, model, brand/rebuilder, and give it some kind of brief description, I think it would help a ton of people out, espcially because the stock trannies are anything but spectacular, lol.

P.S. I'm not looking for a debate, just personal expierence from an individual. I'm also not all all too familiar with the tranmission names Dodge has given to their trucks, so maybe we can come up with a breakdown for what models apply to what year and/or if 2wd differs from 4wd, etc.

According to mopartransmission.com...

1994-2001 Dodge Ram Automatic Transmissions
Engines Size: Transmission
3.9L V6: A500/40RH/42RH/42RE
5.2L V8: A518/46RH/46RE
5.9L V8: A518/46RH/46RE
8.0L V10: A618/47RH/47RE
5.9L I6 Diesel: A618/47RH/47RE

Seems to be no difference in transmissions between 2WD and 4WD.

I'm also not sure when they switched from hydraulic (42RH, 46RH, 47RH) to electronic (42RE, 46RE, 47RE) but I believe I read somewhere that it was around 1996. I know it was after 1995 for sure, because my 1995 Dakota with the 5.2L had the 46RH.

I would think it's a different part or something for 2wd vs 4wd cause APS charges a 4wd over 2wd premium.

There is a big difference between a 2WD and 4WD transmission. The two are not interchangable.
