im up on 38's and need more stopping force, ive heard this can be done on Chevy's, but can i take the brake calipers off a 2500 and put them on my 1500? if so will i need anything different or will they bolt right on? thanks
Not a direct answer to your question, but have you looked at the cylinder swap for your rear drums? If you haven't, search on here, quite a few on here have done it and say it's really improved their braking power. Other options are drilled/slotted rotors and some good pads. I did the drilled/slotted rotors and some good ceramics on a Grand Am GT back in the day and it REALLY made a difference. Don't know if it helps as much on these big trucks though.
I'm pretty sure I remember reading on here that teh caliper's from a 1500, and 2500 are the same. Try the wheel cylinder swap. it's pretty cheap, relitivly speaking, and it does the trick. I'm going to do the swap myself when I get around to bleeding my brakes.
ya but i have but i can get a set of front calipers for 150$, cheep way till i can afford a 600+ disc conversion for the rear
I may be reading this wrong, but you may be misunderstanding...the wheel cylinder swap is NOT a disc brake conversion. It simply increases the pressure to your rear drums by installing the larger cylinder. I can't remember for sure, but I think the cost of it was like $20 a cylinder.
