Default My 01 Ram bogging down in overdrive

My 01 Dodge Ram, 5.2L auto has me concerned. From a stop accelerating to 45mph with overdrive on and constant pressure on the gas, once it reaches 45 mph, the rpms drop to about 1400 and need to floor it to get it to downshift. The problem is it downshifts to 1st or 2nd and approached 5,000 rpm. It is almost like someone grabs the bumper when it hits 45. What gives?

With overdrive off, it drives great and will downshift fine.

i have the same problem sort of. it always seems that the truck shifts to early. it always wants to go up in gears but never wants to downshift un less i give it a alot of pedal. i think 60 - 65 mph is about 2000 rpm. could the TPS cause this?

LT245 75 R 16's; data tag on truck door states it came from factory with 225's.

It has 3.55 gears and 77,500 miles on truck; I bought it at 75,000 miles.

The tranny is stock and never rebuilt other than the tranny seal, filter and fluidchanged when I bought it.

Replaced the TPS and installed a Fastman TB. Still having rpms drop about 400 while in OD while cruising at 65mph and attempting to accelerate. Then it kicks in a split second later. Almost like the TC is not unlocking like it should. Any suggestions?

From what the pro's on here have said..I think the 46RE tranny's TV cablecontrols 1st to 2nd..2nd to 3rd.. the PCM controls 3rd to 4th.. 4th to OD...so you may be able to help out the first two gear shifts.. but the OD is in the hands of the PCM....I dont know for sure if programmers will change these( Hypertech etc..) ...I know the TV will affect when the truck shifts through the first two shifts on my truck..... and the firmness as well, but as for OD.. There may be re-programmers that can change the PCM and your OD. Not sure.. the pro's here will know. My truck, like yours.. goes into OD at 45 mph... and wont kick down until I get to around 3/4 throttle.. or.. let off and right back on the pedal..causing it to down shift..Honestly.. I only drive with the OD on if I know for sure I'm going to be getting on the highway... around here.. ( just outside the Blue ridge mountains..) its all slow rolling hills....my cruise to and from work.. even though its only 7 miles each way..is a constant 40 to 50 MPH.. and I cant stand the constant shift-bog-shift-bog...so I just keep the OD off...with no tranny cooler.. I do stay concerned that driving with it out of OD all the time will cause more heat then normal though...

to the Pro's...do the 01 tranny's work the same??

Just had an after thought.. sorry if I'm dragging this out.. but I was thinking.. I think you can find a tuner.. (SCT??) that may be able to redo some tranny shifting.. I myself have been looking into maybe a shift kit. Not sure if this will help any or not. The tuners are usually for more aggresive mods.. ( cams, and such..)
