Default kegger vs new intake.

I've only been on the forum for a couple of days, My truck has about 80,000 miles on it, no oil loss, but I am all about prevention. It seems that many people are doing this kegger mod where they do some grinding. Is everyone doing this because it is inexpessive, does it really work. I think it would complement my new dual exhaust well, what do you think. As many others, Im on a limited budget, and this mod seems free, other then new gaskets(even I can afford that). What all goes into this mod, how much time. Should I do it, or only wait until an oil leak occurs.

I would really only do it if your having to have your intake apart to fix something else. The job is about 8-10 hours just to remove and install the intake, plus about another 5-7 hours to mod the kegger while it is out. If you do all this just for the sake of modding your kegger, it is no longer a free mod. You'll be paying for the gasket kit and other stuff for example. But if you're in there to fix a blown plenum gasket, then that is the time to do it in my opinion.

I guess if you have that kind of time, and don't mind doing the work, then it really is an inexpensive mod, just awfully labor intensive for the results you will see. Results are decent, but I have never put so much effort into any other mod I have done.

so as far as modding it goes, how much power should i expect. Probably more important to me because I drive back and forh to school, about 100miles a day, is does it help with fueld economy

Check out the DIY on this topic. I just did mine, and am putting in my analysis and mpg results as I put miles on it.

I wouldn't mind doing it but I want to have a shop do the pleneum but I'm not sure that they will cut the kegger down like that. I'm guessing if they do it will be expensive. Same if I send it to a machine shop although I don't want to wait for it to come back. I have a feeling it would have to get left alone since it's not me doing it.

It's not hard, you should just buy a spare one and mod it on the side, then take it to your shop when you have the plenum repair done.
