Default Choices on Chips and Programmers

I have a 01 2500 with the Cummins 5 speed and am looking for information on chips / programmers to add a little power and increase fuel economy. Any suggestions on what is out there and who has the best bang for the buck? I don't want anything radical that is going to cause things to break. Just a little added horsepower and torque when pulling and the added fuel economy would be great. Let me know what you all think!!! Thanks JG

This may be a completely different topic, but what exactly is each performance "chip" or programmer doing to get the added performance? I have seen some called boost foolers, know that others change the fuel injection and timing. It would be nice to know exactly what each of the different brands is actually doing to get the added performance.

Also, when altering the factory setup, is there anthing that you need to worry about and a what point should you start monitering exhaust temp and other things?

Beware of chips, they lie to the computer and net more power at first, but I've heard the computerwisens up and adjusts the power levels back pver time... I want to get a reprogrammer
