Truck caught on fire, same as indyram PICTURES!!
Yup,
I took the fitch off so i could post the non-fitch results. And after disconnecting it I took it for a drive. SOme gas must have soaked into something and when i was pulling out of autozone there was smoke coming from my hood.
Autozone had a fire extinguisher, so I was able to get it before it melted the plastic over the firewall and did damage to the hood. But all my wiring and everything from the throttle body back got melted.
What am I looking at in damages? THe TB is salvageable but the wiring is toast. The tranny dipstick is slightly deformed.
How hard would it be to replace the wiring harness and vac lines myself?
Thanks.

where are you in nj?
Whats a fitch?
The wireing harness isnt hard at all, its basicly like playing one of those memory card games, but fortunately theres only one plug for one sensor, so you cant get them confused. Its probably about 30 connections total btwn the engine and trans. Its really not hard, so long as the connections btwn the firewall and the dash didnt melt (there are three plugs on the driver's side right at the firewall on the opposite side of power brake booster where the engine wireing harness and the dash wiring harness meets up on quick connects.)
The vac lines are rediculiously easy. Hope your ac lines arent messed up.
What was the fire starter for you?

Gas leak when i took the fitch fuel catalyst off. its like a huge in line fuel filter that improves gas mileage. I took it out immediately after the switch and something must have been leaking or some leaves in the engine bay must have been gas soaked. Not too sure. Its still in the autozone parking lot.
The wiring harness is not melted as it goes into the firewall. I chekced that. It was on firefor a good 1.5 mins before it wasput out. The only things that were burned through were the wiresalong the top of the engine bay. I thinkI can do this myself. But I don't know how to reconnect a fuel line.
BTW, i am orogonally from NJ, but living in Oklahoma for the post part. Worst part about this was my wife picking me up laughing and giving me **** aout doing things myself. We got into a big fight, it was a bad one. Thats the worst thing that happened out of this ordeal.
But at least I know I can get this done in a month or so.
I would be someone to benefit from a DIY if you are serious.
Take care

Thanks indy, I will be taking the week to scrounge up parts, but do you know if the wiring harnesses are interchangeable? Like 5.9 to a 5.2? I am thinking yes because the PCM and everything is still good. Nothing was damaged on the firewall, I would say that everything needs to replaced above the intake (near the windshield wipers) and down to the distributor cap. nothing past the throttle body was burned. Maybe an injector, but it looks like the thick top wiresloomneeds to be replaced and all the sensors. Also the vac lines. I will be studying the haynes pretty much the whole week. Maybe i can get it knocked out over the weekend if i can find all the parts.
Thanks for your help!!

man that sucks, I hope you can get it done without any major repairs. You can try to use compression fittings for the fuel line. Just warm up the plastic tubing and push over a nipple or coupling. Also try soldering the wiring together and put a good insulator on. You'll probably learn a lot about your wiring with the project. Let us know if you need some pics on the anything. How come you don't use a filter box?
