Default Used Engine Selection

I am looking for a used engine on car parts.com and I was wondering how big of a difference it makes if the engine comes out of a van or Durango instead of a truck. I have a 98 1500 5.9. And I am not sure what years of production would be best to choose from. Can any one help me out with these questions?

Thanks

Ray

The 5.9 is the same for all three. If you need a source for reliable used engines, drop me a PM. I have a connection who warranties his engines.

As VWandDodge says, engines are the same. However, you will probably find out that the oil pan, possibly the oil pump pickup tube, exhaust manifolds, and crankshaft damper pulleyare different. Also, the linkage to the throttle body may mount differently so you'll need to re-use your Ram throttle body.

pull it and rebuild it! get new bearings, springs, lifters as necessary, cam, and R/t heads while your at it and fix your plenum plate. new KB pistons with full sealing rings from federal mogul or just turn yours pistons 180 degees in the opposite direction with some new rings to boost compression. a windage tray wouln't hurt and who knows, maybe get some headers.

shouldn't cost more then around 2500.
