cracked brakes

Default cracked brakes

Well, I pulled off my brakes to grease them to see if it helped with the squeeking and I noticed the pads had cracks in them. What causes this? This isn't normal is it? Do I need to change them? Thanks.

The rubber seals around the pistons on the calipers are a little cracked too along with the pistons being rough. Is this okay?

Replace the calipers and the pads, and turn your rotors. That should solve the squeal you're getting. Having cracks in your pads is not good, and your calipers are probably pretty worn out by now. I can't remember what the cracking means off hand though.

just try replacing your calipers, pads, and turning the rotors. You should be okay after that.

I am going to say that the calipers are sticking or the brake lines are collaspingand causing your brakes to overheat.

Are the Cardone calipers any good? I can get them cheap from Fishers. Seems like that or Bendix from Summit are my only options around here.

my brakes were grinding so i bought all new pads to find only the passenger side rear were grinding and all other pads were in excellant shape better than the ones i bought. it looked like the dealer never changed those brakes and they were all brittle and falling apart.let me know if the crack is an indicator to something.

Do I really need to have my rotors turned? They feel fine now and they probably have 25k miles or soon them. I didn't notice the last set being warped until I put new pads on it though.

Also do I just bleed the front two brakes since the rear are drums or do I somehow have to bleed the drums? I've never messed much with drum brakes on a car or truck only disc.

It is good to get the glaze on the rotors taken off because it will give you a better surface for your pads to adhere to. I would bleed out the entire system just to get all the fluid in the brake system changed out at once. The Cardone calipers are good and so are the Bendix as long as you do not mind paying twice the price.

If your going to replace the pads you really should either turn the rotors or replace them.
