Default No cat exhaust

I have a 98 ram 1500 with 3.9L v6. Ive heard videos on youtube of flowmaster 40's on the 3.7l engines and they sound nice but I cant determain if they have cats on or not. Passing emissions around here wouldnt bea problem. Would no cats be to rediculous and just get annoying? Anyone have a recording of the 3.9L with no cats on a flowmaster 40?

If I were you, I'd save the $$$ and get a 5.2 or 5.9 V8.

And if you take off your cat without replacing it or without an O2 sim for the sensor, your computer won't like it.

this is going to be a dailey driver, just looking for a little more manly sound to go with the A/T tires and level kit. Does the 3.7L WITH cats and flowmaster 40 sound good?

I'd suggest you just leave the cat. The trouble/cost of getting someone to remove it (unless you have access to your own welding tools) and dealing with the sensor/computer is probably not worth it for a DD. I know the flowmaster 40 sounds good on V8s, but with the V6, no matter what muffler you go with, its going to sound ricerish, IMO.

I'd leave the cat. Also I've heard a 40 series on a 4.3 chevy six banger and it sounded decent.

Yeah a new muffler can do some good, just don't mess with the cat unless you get the simm O2 sensor or find a way to trick your PCM's O2 sensor reading. Your mileage will plummet and your engine will always run way too rich. Try cutting out 1/2" of metal across the bottom half of the pipe 2 inches in front of your muffler with a 4 1/2" metal cutting tool. If your cut is made nice and clean, you'll have a louder smooth sounding exhaust at lower RPMs and at higher RPMs the exhaust will pretty much bypass the whole because of velocity and continue through your tailpipe. This was a very cheap way for me to get a better sounding exhaust without spending more than a few bucks on a cutting wheel blade before I redid my exhaust system.

BUT

USE A SAFETY MASK AND A HOODED SWEATER TO KEEP METAL OUT OF YOUR FACE!

OR AT LEAST SOME BIG UGLY DORKY LOOKING SAFETY GOOGLES THAT WRAP AROUND AND CUP ONTO YOUR FACE TO KEEP STUFF OUT OF YOUR EYES.

I once got a metal shaving in my eye when I was drilling out some tack welds, and at first it wasn't too bad, but afterwards, I couldn't keep my eye open and using one eye to see didn't fly straight for too long.

If this does happen though, get a small clean magnet and pull the metal out ASAP!

Id leave it the way it is.. flowmasters are meant for v8's not v6's. they do make the 60 series made more for v6's but id just leave it. I think they sound kind of annoying. If you want a somewhat performance sound then go with a si/so magnaflow.

Its gonna sound like a civic with a fart can, if remove the cat and put a 40 series on it

leave the damn thing alone, Dont try to make a V6 sound like a V8 because it will never happen
