Hard turns in 4 wheel
Hey all. A quick question.Doing a hard left or right turn in 4 wheel drive. My truck doesn't like it at all. Almost as if it is coming out of 4 wheel or the front axle is disengaging from one of the tires. Easier turns & straight line is noproblem
I searched the forum but it come up a ton of posts that did not seem to help.
Any clues?
Thanks
Jeff
you sure its just not the typical steering action when turning in 4wd
If you are stopped or going very slowly and turn to full lock you are getting odd behavior? Like one wheel isn't turning as fast?
thats typical of 4WD. I am sorry the actual name of this is not coming to mind.
This is because the of the "U" joint on the front axles.
Now if you are experiencing something else... give more info.

You pegged it 98. going slow & turning hard (parking lot) Just got my Ram and it snowed yesterday. First time in 4x4.
Related threads listed at the bottom has a thread in General Tech. I only searched in Ram Gen 2
Thanks

Yes, didn't think of that. I am sure with a worn track bar you would/could get a lot more feedback and maybe even a clunk.

I get this all the time when I out in the mud I know its normal but feels terrible, kinda like the whole front of the truck hopin around the turn and draggin the rear end along... all 4wd vehicles I have been in do it when turning hard enough. it seems as though oversized tires makes this feel a little worse
with my other trucks, i would just shift out of 4WD when making a hard turn.
if its acting like that, then you have enough traction to take it out of 4WD.
I am sure its binding the gears up a little too.
I don't go wheeling anymore, and only put it in to 4WD in the snow, so I don't really notice that issue.
My F-150 with 31" mudders did it really bad, like the front tires were egg shaped.
