Well at the time when I bought mine...., people were putting in the msd setup's. Aparently the msd setup can throw a cel? Yea well im not the custom metal worker, so Idon't have the resources or knowledge to fab up something nice to make it work. With that, I still had the stock coil and was looking to swap it out while doing my my tuneup. I'm honestly not amajor fanof msd for some reason.. (sorry). So what was I left with? Imcompletely not afan of hypertech at all.....so what am I left with? Accel seemed to be the obvious choice. Eitherway I just want you guys to know that the accel coil does work fine with the adapter harness in my application. If someone wants to pm me about why this coil is so bad, I would love to hear it! As far as the packageing goes, mine was pretty generic. Accel box with the coil, 2 stickers, and that was it. Not too fancy imho. We all have our preferences, but if someone has a genuine experience with the accel coil being so bad, I really wanna hear it to pm me.

Thanks
Screw the pm...I wanna hear it too Now what is this about the MSD throwing a CEL? Are you talking about the MSD direct factory replacement coil? (8228) Or one of the actual blaster coil set-ups?

I heard the actual blaster coil setup threw a cel for someone. Just hear say at this point since I dont have proof. Let me look around later this afternoon and dig up where I saw it.

- - - - EDIT

Well I can't find it. From what I faintly remember, the person had the msd box setup with blaster coil etc.. "the works". I think They were talking about possibly a tach wire something? Something was throwin a code. Maybe I'm just dreaming, i just got up and bit ago and its already 2:46. Where did the day go? Then there was discussion of a ballast resistor etc. They were supposed to be used for point style distributors to limit the voltage a bit. I used one on my old mustang when I did some msd on it. Something about the stock computer voltage and something or nother. I think PA was tossing that around with someone else or something. hopefully he will chime in here and set me straight. Honestly it was just too many variables for me at the time to go through the hassel. I just threw that accel on there and away I went.

Yeah, I think is something different. The MSD I'm talking about is the same deal as the Accel...just a factory replacement. Thanks...

I mean accel in general. I guess I have only had experiance with their distributors, but everyone I have come across is junk, then someone I work with in the summer that is one hell of a mechanic says the same thing, and I would trust him before anyone when it comes to this stuff.

msd ingition box will throw a soft code (no CEL light) something about the coil or something , this is taken care with using the MSD 8910 tach adapter. the msd coil #8228 is a factory replacement so no worries , its when you throw the ingition box in the mix u mite want to add the tach adapter
OFF TOPIC : today my msd ingition box 6a took a dump...oh well.

Here are two quotes I found from an old post, which didn't tell me much[8D]

ORIGINAL: Crazy4x4RT

Ya I had an accel coil go bad on me too. I bought a msd coil and no problems ever since. I do have accel high temp. wire sets. I love them. You can put the wire on a hot header and it will not melt. Go for it.

I believe that kit would be OK. Just don't get their coil for your truck. Their coils usually are short lived.
