Went to add oil today in my 2000 5.9. ran fine for a few miles. started it back up and no pressure after a min. The oil is over full is that the problem?
Over full by how much? 1/2 quart or 1 quart? being that little over wont have an issue with the guage, I know because I use to work at a valvoline instant oil change yrs ago and sometimes people would put in 1 more quart than the motor called for and when we would start it back up for a pressure check there was always oil pressure. Of course we then had to drain the excess oil out after we took a dipstick reading after the oil pressure check.
well that would be the first thing I would check, unless you oil pump took a crap in that short period of time
I hate to agree or be the bearer of bad news, but I did have an oil pump go out after completing an oil change. It was not in my Ram, but luckily our Rams are fairly easy to replace the oil pump.
Do the rest of the gauges work?
Any abnormal knocking of clacking noises?
Might just be a bad oil sending unit. (here's hoping)[sm=signs003.gif][sm=sigh.gif]
thanks guys. Yea i would say about 1 quart over full. No noises that i heard, none that were serious. First happen when the truck was tilted sideways. Will drain the oil tommorow morning at first light.

how sideways? I get an oil light when I am about a quart low and I take a corner hard (sorta equivilant to being sideways) Remember the oil pressure sender is ontop of the block, so if your sideways sometimes it may not regester. 0 psi though is abnormal even for that. The sender is a good possability if you are getting pressure. If youve drivin it any distance and it hasent seized I would assume it wouldnt be the pump itself.
not that bad less then 10 degrees for sure. I went to drive it home, got about 30 seconds down the road light went off, i stoped shut it off started it back up and turned around and went back. Then i think i shut it off one more time then started it back up, had pressure for about 10 - 15 sec then i shut it off and it will be off untill tomorrow morning.
