Default Who wants to give me a history lesson?

So I was looking through at hub conversions for my truck. The cheapest is around a grand. Then you have to take care of the cad unit.... so there goes 250, and... what else. Oh yea, throw a mini spool in the front. Just talking out loud here, but what axles came with lock hubs already? I was looking at some ram chargers and am I not mistaken that some had lock hubs? Maybe im just dreaming, but wouldnt it be easy to just do an axle swap? Just thinking out loud. Also.. things seem to get a little sluggish around here at night time. lets toss somethign else in to get things going.

If you have manual lock hubs, you can throw a locker or in this case... a mini spool in there and when you want the locker performance, lock em up and go. A hub conversion is like 1000 bux. with the stock 4x4 setup, its an open differential. basically the tire that has some traction doesnt get it and the tire that free will spin, spin, spin. Im one of the lucky people who have 2 open diffs. I will switch to a lsd in the rear this summer, but swaping a d44 for a d44 with manual hubs shouldn't be too bad right? buy a mini spool and slap in there and there you go.

No it shouldn't be too bad. Have you looked into getting an air locker kit? If you have a rear locker, you shouldn't need much more unless you plan on doing some hardcore sh*t.

A front locker on a street truck can be pretty scary.
I had one in my old F-150 and hated it.
It was great off road, but noisy and I was always breakin sh*t.
It was terrible to drive on the street

Yea i've looked into an air locker... but then you have to worry about compressor, air lines, and all the other goodies. Too much $$$ and my pockets dont have it. Thats why I was wondering because there was a dana44 axle on ebay and I couldn't tell if it had lock hubs or not. It was an older one, just swap em out and theres my hub conversion for 99 bux (used axle cost). A mini spool for 59 bux. Done.

Personally, I would not lock the front...only the rear.

spool in the front, not a good idea, even off road

there will no give, probably end up busting some axleshafts and u-joints

but considering the problems of the Dana 44 differential
I would not argue with someone who would go with a complete
axle transplant for the front

I have to agree, I wouldn't be locking the front axle. Many headaches will follow after that.
