Margarett, my truck is an automatic and when I first turn the ignition on and all of the warning lights come on that yellow arrow in the middle of my tach. comes on for a few seconds. So obviously the truck does have the feature. I have the same year and model as you.

the 4x4 is turn on and off in the transfer case and not on the fount axle like a 01 and later I thank that the hubs are all time locked and the transfer case locks and unlocks in a 02 and up
