I agress, that seems like a good idea. If your seriously considering doing something about your suspension to increase the trucks stability on the road, that's the way to go.

By the way. Take some pictures of your suspension lift or at least tell us what kind of lift you've got. I'm still kinda in the dark and I'm sure some people can tell you where to start in order to improve your trucks suspension if your interested in advice.

http://koreperformance.com/dodge-ram...e-lift-kit.htm

haha i realize you are broke. hell i am broke to. but that is a BADASS system[8D]

ive read all 13 pages. and believe you are on the right track now. get the tranny dealt with, get a professional opinion on the lift, either from someoen whos knows their **** live, or take some pics and get it from here.

i would Def. go with new shocks after the tranny, that should help so much. go with the Bilstiens

Here's what I think, man: The BEST decision is not always the EASIEST decision to make. Given the current situation, money being sparce, youbeing a student, gas prices blow *****,it would be smarter to fix your tranny, pull the lift and big tires, and go with a factory Sport set-up. Now I know that hurts to think about, because, let's face it, the truck looks great. But, like I said, I think with your best interests in mind, you should pull the lift and fix the tranny. You have to consider the future and weigh it against the now. Replacing much of the front suspension + fixing the tranny = more than you can afford at this time. Don't let instant gratification cloud your mind. Go back to stock, take care of your new tranny, and save for another lift in the days ahead. Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Just my .02 to go along with everyone else's...

I don't think this was asked.
Does your truck still have the front sway bar hooked up?

Ya know what I'm not positive on that. Also, Ram2K1, I completely completely agree with you. I think instead of trying to spend all sorts of weird money trying to make this exisiting lift work would be a never ending nightmare. And, even if I do piece out all of the other suspension components to make it proper, it still is a half *** lift. I think I'll put it back down to the offroad editon height and put on some nice 285s with some fresh looking wheels. Then, later down the road when I have more fun money to spend, I'll do the lift right on this truck. I'll buy the 5'5 Fabtech lift, and buy some 4.56s gears. Hell, I'll save my existing 35" tires and I could use those when I first get the lift on? I think this is my best and safest solution to saving this transmission and the suspensional components that are taking wear and tear right now.

Now as for the transmission, I called them back today because they hadn't called me all day yesterday or all day today. I called them about an hour before they closed. When I called they told me to call back in an hour because they were just finishing up diagnosing it. Then about 30 minutes later they called back. He says he think there is an intake leak on the truck. He mentioned basically taking everything apart on the top end to replace the plenum and the gaskets. So I guess this does answer that I do have a bad plenum (never checked this before). I was somewhat confused though, I didn't think a plenum could affect the way a transmission shifts, is this possible?? Anyways, he says he's calling me back tomorrowing morning with a full quote and give me more details what they plan to do, but that is the gist of what he thinks is going on. So no codes were thrown from the tranny itself? What do you guys make of this?

I think he's gonna charge you an a$$-load for doing the plenum. Is there ANY way you can do it later yourself? They will rape some labor on that... Ask him if that's what they think is wrong with the tranny...if he says yes, say thanks, bye.

EDIT: Then tow it home and order a Fastman or Dr. Evil tranny...

Thats a good question. I don't know why I didn't think of that but that could cause him the problems it sounds like he has.

Well firstly, does that sound like a plausble explanation for the transmission not shifting? I didn't know the plenum had anything to do with a transmission. Also, is this something I'd be able to do myself? I mean, I can't really be dicking around considering my truck isn't functional unless that is fixed. How much do you think they are going to be quoting me for something like that?
