tranny fluid change
ok few questions. i have a 99 ram with the 5.9 auto tranny. cant remember which tranny i got. but the gasket has a hump sticking out. but anyhow i went to dodge dealer today adn got me a filter and gasket. and the truck recommends atf+3. well i asked for some atf+3 and the parts guy said that they have phased that out. to atf+4. but he also said that dodge does not recommend mixing the two. now i have a carfax report and it says it was serviced at a dodge dealer almost a year ago. thats why im changing it. but my questions are:
would the dealership flushed the tranny back about a year ago?
if not would it actually hurt to mix the two?
do they make a additive to help mix them?
the reason im giving the tranny fluid change first is when i pull out on a slight hill when cold it feels like its slipping. but after the trucks gets up to normal driving temps its fine shifts great and smooth. but around here both times it has done it its been around 30 degrees in morning. so im thinking that the fluid is thin and cold. the reason behind that theory is when it was 60 degrees the other morning it didnt slip one bit. dang tennessee wheather dont know if it needs to be warm or cold.
i have been driving for about 2 weeks now and it has slipped 2 times since i had it. just pruchased it changing all fluids and stuff. the previous owner had it serviced at all dodge dealerships. but his wife (the one i bought it off of) didnt know when last time it was serviced. so i did the carfax thing and it brought up all the times it was at dealership.
thats the reason i beleive the fluid change might nip a problem before it has one.
the truck hasnt been drove for about 8 months. thats when her husband stopp driving it cause of health problems.

yea i did that and at the time it was serviced they didnt have a detailed list of stuff done it just says transmission service with atf+3/atf+4. and it cost like 140 bucks at the time. he told me that was right at the change from 3 to 4 on tranny fluid. he said that here latley they have been changing fluids with the atf4 and he never heard of the not mixing them together thing. so i dunno who to beleive we have a dodge dealership here that tells me one thing and another one up in virginia that tells something tottally differant.
i know my dakota 2000 model has the atf4 in it. of course i had the motor and tranny out at time of bodydrop and changed all fluids and flushed the whole system. but that was when i could get fluids for free from dodge dealership.

yea he did try to sell me the flush service. and i know he is a dick cause he is the one i cant stand but the normal parts guy i talk too is on vacation for 2 weeks. but anyhow i talked to a few differant mopar guys around town and they all said same thing u can mix em. and they also told me to check my bands in tranny pull on them and they should have about a 1/4 inch travel to them.
Does that sound right?
and if out of that range how do i adjust them?
