I looked at a bunch of 99+ 4x4s for the wiring harnesses. They all had a diffrent setup for where the harness connects into the firewall. I need to get some pictures of the 97+ 2x4 so that I can see if its a 4x4 thing, and pics of 96 4x4s to see if its a 97+ thing.

Mine is a 96 4x4 and the wiring harness has 3 connectors that are on the firewall that comes between the engine wiring harness and the fuse box. So, all I had to replace was the harness for the engine, and the fuse box and the extra 1.5 feet of cables are still good. The harness i got sent me the fuse box and all those wires as well. I don;t need that. if you got really toasted over to the fuse box and past those 3 connectors, i can be a little help. I also have the wires for the headlights. They gave me everything..more than i need. You will still need the harness piece that goes along the top of the firewall. I'll work on a pic soon.

Here is the pic of the three connectors. Everything to the left goes to the engine, everything to the right goes to the fuse box and into the firewall. The second pic shows where it goes into the firewall. The third pic is the leftover wiring i had. THe firewall plug is the big round orange thing that is in the upper right. This part of the harness goes to the fuse box and attaches to the engine harness via the 3 connectors in the first pic.

Thanks guys. I guess that means I can ONLY get a 96 harness. 4x4 or 4x2. The area on the 01 that connects to the perportioning valve is what iv been looking at all day. My truck has the 3 connectors like on CPTAFW163s. I suppose thats only a 96 thing, the 3 connectors that is.

btw...what the heck is that big box that has the grommet attached to it? I didnt have to remove something like that.

 

Thats the fuse box. They sent me ever wire from under the hood. Probably why it cost me 450 for everything. All the wires on the floor are for the fuse box and headlights etc. That is what i have leftover.

Alright, we now know you need a 1996 ENGINE harness. So everyone keep on the lookoutfor the harnessto theleft of the 3 connectors, where the engine harness plugs into the fust box harness (fuse box harness goes into the firewall for the dash gauges). Indy, let me know if you need the thick bundles that attach to the fuse box. i don;t need those.
