Default DT ProFab vs. Thuren Fabrication TracBar

I was about to order the DT Profab tracbar when someone mentioned Thuren Fabrication and now I can't decide whihc is necessarily better. Thuren is closer stock design, DT relocated the frame mounting bracket. Based on what I hear here and on Pavementsucks, both may need some additional welding or strengthening for major wheelers. Thuren is also a little cheaper and since I wanted to order the cross steering kit from him, thought maybe it would work better as a system vs mix-n-match.

My truck is a 98 3/4 ton 4x4 that does some moderate towing/hauling, mostly trail offroading, rare mudding/rocks. 35" tires, 2.5" skyjacker system w/ dual stabilizers & shocks. Looking for stability, ease of maintenance, some strength improvements and reliability.

My plan is rebuild my steering system w/ my bonus money: new steering shaft (borgeson or flaming river??, is one better?), cross-over steering, new tracbar, cleanup the sway bar w/ new links and bushings (urethane or rubber), steering stabilizer from DT Profab....I've heard the complaints, but I don't articulate enough to worry about it affecting my box. Maybe one day hydro, but don't really need it right now. And alot of rust removal.....

Cash is burning in my pocket....suggestions before I spend it please!!!!

Thanks gents!

Hmmm the both look pretty decent.
The profab looks like it might be a beefier design. (heim joints on both ends and the bar is straight)
Probably only an issue if seriously off roading though.

The Thuren one looks closer to stock and is bent for clearance around the front diff but it doesn't look greasable (maybe it doesn't need grease?)
The Profab may get around the diff clearance by relocating the bar more forward with that bracket. Pics on their sight aren't clear to show that.

Thuren would definitely be easier to install but I don't like the open design of that ball socket. It just looks like a great place for salt and road grime to get in and grind away the joint. (Maybe they include a boot or shield that isn't shown?

I have no experience with either but I would probably get the Profab.

Here's a link to see the install on the DT Profab tracbar.

This is actually the cross-over steering, but you can see a few of the Tracbars installed in the first, third and fifthpicture.
I just wanted to know if there was any added benefit to moving the frame side mount. The bar looks thick enough on the Thuren not to worry about the clearance bend and since I don't need extreme duty was leaning towards keeping it more stock for better on-road handling.

I'm sure both will work and be better than stock. The Profab just looks a bit more durable.
The Profab look to be a longer bar too. That should minimise axle side to side shift a bit more as the suspension compresses and drops. I think we're splitting hairs though.

Whats the supposed advantage to the cross over steering. I'm sure it stronger than stock but I don't see how it increases steering feel, response, or sensitivity. Perhaps that wasn't their intent though.

I kinda like the cross-over steering.........seems to be cheaper to buy the kit, intstead of replacing all worn out stock Tierods

The cross-over steering should reduce bump steer as it is flatter due to being higher, mounted to knuckle rather than mid tie rod. I also have always felt uncomfortable having my tie rod attach to the tie rod. Also, the last time I went to get an alignment my driver's side tie rod end or adjuster was frozen and locked, probably the added pressure of 35s. Since I have to replace it anyways, rather upgrade.

I'm leaning towards the DT trac bar right now, even though I think I would prefer the install on the Thuren.

I've been doing alotof reading/research on this because I need to replace mine very soon. A few posts that I have read on this forum and others, people are stating the Thuren looks "homemade" once they have received them. The install on the DT is more involved, but I have yet to find a negative comment on it.Not that the "homemade" look means its a negative. I will probably be ordering the DT here in the next few weeks.

just a word on DT's behalf. I was employed at DT for a couple years and nothing he sells is FN chinese! everything that comes from DT is manufactured on site. Even powdercoating is done locally. I ran the cnc's and lasers that produce the parts. so if you actually do live nearby, I suggest you stop by and check out his operation. all his dodge and jeep parts kick ***. theres no need to **** talk!
