Good 5.9 build up article.
There is a great article on building up a 5.9 magnum 360 in the April '08 issue of HotRod Magazine. I recommend you check it out. They basically take an older 360 magnum crate engine that was dyno'ed at 319 hp, and with just a few mods, got that number to 448 hp. Their goal was to use it to replace an old LA style 360 in an old Mopar application (like a Dart), so they retain the carb setup.
They did it with a hydrolic roller cam that had 230/236 duration at .050, 110 degree lobe seperation, Edelbrock Performer RPM magnum heads with Chevy 1.6 alum roller rockers, Mopar Performance M1 single plane intake, a 750 carb, and an MSD ignition. They retained all the stock bottom end, including the hydrolic roller lifters.

Was the an engine dyno or chassis dyno? 448hp in a 4x4 truckwith slightly oversized tirestruck is probably 315-320 at the wheels. Can you imagine what that 230 on110's would do to a stock pcm. lol Definately have to get a SCT for that one.
Did you read that from a hard copy or online? Did they give any tq #'s?

Yeah if thats rwhp thats damn good #s with that small a cam. Curious on torque as well. Like to read that article, have to search their site.
I have abit bigger236/242 580/577L 114blower cam (low overlap)in my 8.5cr 408 with Eddy hds flowing 294/248cfm, m1/2bbl, 65lb inj, fast, 3800stall, should lay down 370rw with any luck na. Projectlow 12s na, much faster with boost.
My buddies NA 408 Indy (solid lifter, 248/254 615/625L on 110) w/58x55tb, m1/4bbl, 44lb inj, fast, 4000stallput that down(448rw) lastfall ona Mustangdyno wearing 20s. With open tb, it made 459rw. He wants to spray a 250 shot but needs the same fuel system I have to do it.
Think he may be the first(edit/Ram) to run a 11second et with NA 408 if he gets good air.

I read it in the magazine hardcopy. That article probably won't be online till next month (unless you have a Hotrod subscription, you might be able to see it online now too).
It was an engine dyno (Superflow 901) tested at Westech Performance Group.
Base torque on the crate motor was 424, and after the mods it was only 434. The article seemed to skim over this without much regard, basically indicating that the torque numbers on the 300 hp crate were very good to begin with, and that there was not much additional gain due to the single plain intake they switched too (the 300 hp crate motor came with a dual plane M1). They elude to the fact that the single plane M1 is designed for high output use, not low end torque. I also noticed the torque peak moved from about 3600 rpm on the stock setup up to 4900 rpm on the modded motor. HP peak on the stock motor was at 4400 rpm, and on the modded motor was up to 5800 rpm.
